The Wednesday Club

A social organization for members of Anthem Country Club

The Wednesday Club Mission Statement

The Wednesday Club (TWC) is the largest social club for men and women for Anthem Golf and Country Club members.  TWC provides a means for members to meet each other, make new friends, and find others with similar interests.  TWC is a separate non-profit and not associated with Anthem Golf & Country Club.

The TWC Story

The Wednesday Club (TWC) was formed when ACC member Sally Dabovich was on her way to present an idea concerning a ladies luncheon to ACC at the Persimmon Grille.  She ran into her buddy Sally Bergeron in the parking lot and asked her to join them in the meeting.

The idea was:  how to bring new neighbors together and provide social activities.  They decided on a breakfast meeting, Sally D. designed flyers and personally drove around to every mailbox in ACC, where they were removed the next day by the powers that be.  Despite that, the first breakfast meeting was held on the back patio on March 21st, 2001 with 65 ladies in attendance.

After the first meeting, the 2 Sallys called together a steering committee meeting.  The following pioneers attended:  Marilyn Noblitt, Karen Rowley, Claire Witt, Cecilia Healy, Honey Bartsch, Connie Henry, Claire Sherman, Jill Hill, Robin Speranza, Patty Lewis, Vickie Olson and Wendy Hudspeth.  Out of that gathering came the first Board of Directors.

Several more interested and energetic ladies volunteered their expertise, and TWC was in motion!  It was molded, planned, and shaped by these dedicated volunteers who have created something truly wonderful for our community.  It grew to include the Special Interest Groups.  And, the rest is history.

We thank these first founders and appreciate all the volunteers who followed!

TWC Poem

“Sally 1” and “Sally 2” weren’t quite sure what to do.

So “Sally 1” said to “2”, “Let’s get together, just a few--

And see what happens if we do.”

Flyers went out to get attention,

To meet new friends was the intention--

Of future plans, there was no mention.

Over the months, the group did grow,

And became a club with seeds to sow,

As women met new friends to know.

Groups were formed of every type--

To read, to lunch, to serve, to write,

To meet with those we grew to like.

Friendships forged as strangers met--

Women evolving, growing yet

As we learn to reach our best.

So “Sally 1” and “Sally 2”, many thanks to both of you—

You started it all with just a few,

And the women of Anthem owe a lot to you.
