    Our first outing was for brunch at LATHA in Heritage Square. The weather was perfect, food was delicious, upbeat music and handcrafted cocktails. A wonderful afternoon.  Latha, Swahili for flavor, celebrates the interconnected journey of the foodways and culture of Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, and the Southern US.

    Today we had a wonderful time making and designing our own vases at the Sunshine Sunflower Pottery Class in Phoenix.  Would highly recommend a group to attend also.

    The Day Trippers 7 group visited Amazon fulfillment center in Goodyear AZ for a tour of the facility followed by lunch at The Sicilian Butcher.

    Perfect day for our March adventure. Went to the Japanese Friendship Gardens on Thursday, March 20th and our docent was extremely knowledgeable & informative. Such beauty in downtown Phoenix. Who knew? We look forward to going back. 

    Had a wonderful lunch at First & Last. Casual but so yummy!!

    Our group went to see the unbreakable boy last month. It was the story about a boy that was born with brittle bone disease and autism, and how his family learned to cope with his disability. It was a wonderful moving story and everybody enjoyed it.

    Our February Fun & Finer luncheon was hosted by Bonnie Baker at Lure in Scottsdale.  

    Lure's seasonally-focused menu offers an array of classics like mussels, ceviches, fish tacos, lobster, organic salads, and simply seared fish served with unique sides. The Lure Oyster House serves a variety of fresh oysters, as well as unique specialties such as our renowned charbroiled oysters. Our bar features local wines and cocktails made with freshly squeezed fruit juices.

    Thank you to the members who were able to contribute and attend the First Foodies event of 2025 (pictures attached, appropriately taken in the kitchen).  We enjoyed Fresh Veggies and dip, Olive Cheese balls, White Bean Soup, Tomato Basil Soup, Spinach Salad, homemade Sour dough bread, fresh baked Italian bread, and brownies, Key Lime pie.

    As we enjoyed the delicious lunch, we had a wonderful discussion on our backgrounds and how our love of cooking/baking came to be.  We discovered some talents among us that we plan to share with each other, such as baking Sour dough bread, making Pastry, growing and storing herbs, etc., etc.  We have a great list of activities we are considering partaking in this coming year, which include but are not limited to Farmer’s Market Visit, Olive Mill tour, Penzey’s visit, Virtual classes via Sonoma Williams, cooking classes at Sweet Basil, Sur La Table, and a potential visit to the Culinary Institute.  As always, we will plan to wrap up the year with what will be our 5th Annual Holiday Cookie Swap.  We look forward to meeting in each other's homes and enjoying more great food and cooking conversations.

    We had a great fascinating history tour of the Arizona Capitol Museum and visited the House Chamber and the beautiful grounds. We lunched outside at CIBO, great food and company. All in all, a very fun day!
